Hanging out at Sick Kids

This morning my mom and i woke up at 6 and headed down to Sick Kids for my second round of chemo. When we got here i checked in and had some blood work done, and i have to say, it was the least painful needle i’ve ver had so the day was off to a good start. I am going to be here for 5 days of chemo, so it was time for me to get a pic line. A pic line is device that is connected to a more central line then an IV in my hand. Until this morning i wasn’t aware that a pic line was such a procedure. When the nurse was explaining what was going to happen i looked at her with my jaw dropped and said “are you kidding me?” but whatever it is, it has to be done so i have to suck it up. After i got the freezing on my arm done, my mom and i were just sitting waiting for me to go in when the nurse came out and informed us that there was an emergency and my pic line will be postponed for a few hours. So with frozen arms, my mom and i went down to the cafeteria for some lunch, and thats where i’ve been ever since. The waiting is kind of draining but i’m still happy that i’m feeling well, because i know after i get my chemo i wont be feeling great for a few days.

  2. Carley, you have great spirit and I believe that it will see you through all of this. Sending you good vibes!

  3. The pic line is a really good thing Carley. It’s easier and less painful then having a whole host of IVs and it saves your veins which you will be happy about later. Getting through all this treatment is like eating an elephant. It seems impossible but of course it is possible to eat an elephant. You just have to eat it one bite at a time. I’m rooting for you.
