Inspired by the Humans of New York (HONY) movement pioneered by photographer Brandon Stanton, we are creating a photo series celebrating our volunteers, their stories, and what brought them to Carley's Angels.
Today it's our pleasure to introduce international Crew member, Emily.
"I first heard about Carley's Angels after watching an amazing film called Kiss and Cry. A select few films have had a huge impact on my life, and this story happened to be one of them. After hearing Carley's story, I immediately hit Google to find out more. This is where I found Carley's Angels and her story inspired me in a way that I could never imagine.
I often think of the famous quote "Always Smile", and even started saying it around my friends, who then also passed on the quote. Never giving up is a huge obstacle that everyone has to face, but this story made me believe in myself more. Even on the toughest days I now know that I don’t have to give up, and that I can carry on as my mind is in control."
"Cancer has affected me. One of my family members was unfortunately diagnosed with it. I was able to keep my mind focused through my hobby which is performing. It’s something I've always loved. Even in the toughest moments I have been able to take my mind away by doing something I love and it never fails to make me smile."

"However, we were lucky, and they managed to get rid of their cancer as fast as possible. I know that this is not the case for many families around the world, so I knew I had to help in some way. That’s when I saw I could volunteer for Carley's Angels, which has allowed me to to share Carley's message here in the UK. I know that being able to do this has already helped many of my friends. I have seen how the community coming together can really shape the way that we tackle something as huge as cancer."
"The first time I volunteered I was overwhelmed with joy, I couldn’t wait for the next event. I hope to keep spreading this amazing message of “Always Smile”, and that together we keep up all the amazing things that we are doing to help tackle cancer." - Emily Waugh
